About the Writer

My name is Natasha and I am a Humanities student at the University of Cape Town. I am studying an undergraduate degree majoring in Psychology, Organisational Psychology, and Media Studies. However I am not my degree. Instead, I am my music.

I first took part in formal singing and piano lessons at the age of six. At the age of ten, I began teaching myself to play the guitar. I have thoroughly enjoyed performing for others all my life, be it friends, family or even strangers. My favorite moments were always those in which I was sharing my passion.

In 2018, I joined a band and began recording my own original music. The songs that were released onto SoundCloud received great feedback, and although I had always felt it, from that moment I decided that music would be a permanent part of my life.

However making it big in the music industry while living in South Africa has proved to be an enormous challenge, and this has inspired me to get into contact with other local musicians to discuss their challenges and experiences.

Through my interactions I hope to find solace, and through sharing the stories of both myself as well as other local musicians in my blog posts, I seek to make the South African music industry a better-recognized and celebrated platform.

Although I am a vulnerable Pisces, I am not a pushover. I won’t give up on my musical journey, and this blog is but a stepping stone in the right direction. All that’s left for me to do is keep pushing and enjoy the ride.
